Events

Down Syndrome Dublin runs many social events during the year for all members from our baby groups up to our adult member discos.  As well as social activities we also hold educational classes, summer camps and events for all the family.  Events are subsidised through our local branch fundraising activities.

Please contact us if you would like to run an event for our members, the committee are always happy to hear suggestions for events and classes.

To keep up to date with upcoming events, please make sure you renew your membership for 2023 so we can keep you updated via email.  We will also post news and events on our social media pages.

A look back at some of the events & groups in 2022

Baby and Toddler Group

We were thrilled that our Northside Baby & Toddle group was back meeting in person in Baldoyle.  This particular group of babies and parents had only met on Zoom up until early 2022 because of Covid restrictions.  They were delighted to finally get together and Rainbow Phil dropped by each week. If you are interested in starting a Baby and Toddler Group in your area please contact us and let us know.

Fun with numbers group (aged 6 – 13)

A very popular group with our primary school members is our Fun With Numbers group.  In 2022 we were back in St Gabriel’s Parish Centre in Clontarf. Everyone has fun while learning counting, addition and subtraction.  The groups even put their skills to the test with a lunch out at a local restaurant and selling Christmas decorations at their local Special Olympics club. If you are interested in attending this group in 2023 please contact us and let us know.

10 Pin Bowling Group (aged 9 – 16)

In 2022 we piloted a new Bowling group in Leisure Plex in Tallaght.  The pilot was a huge success and the group is now a regular fixture.  Meeting on Tuesday evenings.  Some great friendships are being made and some very serious bowling is taking place.  Even Santa paid the group a visit in December. If you are interested in attending this group in 2023 please contact us and let us know.

City Farm Club (aged 13 – 17)

In April we were delighted to be able to start our City Farm Club for our teenage members, run in conjunction with the City Farm in St Anne’s Park in Raheny. Members attending the City Farm Club learned about all the animals at the farm and got to meet them up close.  They learned about caring for farm animals and the other roles involved in managing a small working farm.  Experiences included feeding, handling the animals, cleaning animal pens, horticulture and other related tasks. Everyone had a great time at got certificates at the end of the 4 weeks.

Adult member social evenings (aged 18+)

We organise social events for our adult members, with our very popular Dinner & Discos taking place in 2022.

Seasonal Parties

Throughout the year we held parties for all members, we held our first Halloween Party at the Carmilite Centre followed by our Christmas Party with Santa himself stopping be in early December. In June, the Ryan Bourke Foundation hosted an exclusive Summer Festival for all members of Down Syndrome Dublin in Fitzwilliam Square.  It was a great day with members of all ages coming together.
